Jackson and the Janks traffic in a particular and serious pleasure: rock and roll, rhythm and blues, garage gospel, sacred steel lifting you up and bass saxophone holding it down. It is, to use a word that gets thrown around too loosely, a groove — except here it’s real, earned, and the kind that gets people swing dancing before they’ve decided to. Their debut was recorded live-to-tape in New Orleans over two years, and their second came out on Jalopy Records, the New York institution that knows this territory as well as anyone.
