There’s a corner of American music — call it new folk, strange country, songs that don’t quite fit the bin they’re filed in — where Wolf van Elfmand has been quietly doing some of his best work. A Colorado-raised, Brooklyn-based songwriter with a traveler’s biography and a satirist’s eye, he writes music that nods to the tradition without getting sentimental about it. His live show has the looseness of someone who’s played a lot of rooms and knows how to read one. Joining him is Adelyn Strei, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from the same creative orbit — clarinet, voice, guitar, and an improvisational approach that opens up the space around a song rather than filling it in. The two have been in each other’s musical lives long enough that their collaboration feels less like a pairing and more like a conversation already in progress. Portland, Maine’s own Lisa/Liza opens the evening.
