Pick Your Own Flowers!
Aug 04, 2026

THE WEEK
With weeks of sunny weather, our flower block is a rhapsody of color. Walking the farm road, I’m beckoned by flashes of nodding magenta, orange, and yellow heads. No matter what duty calls, I find my way down to rows of blooms worked over tirelessly by bees making the most of short lives. What can compete for attention like a flower at close range? I lose time admiring fragrant snapdragons with tongued-runways, strawflowers–like small, rattling suns–born dried, and airy cosmos with petal ballerina-skirts. With nectar mined from the hearts of flowers, is it any wonder the sweetness of honey? Come help us make the most of flower season! Our flower block is open for pick-your-own: stop by the barn to grab a flower ring (we have two sizes), and a pair of snips. Stuff your ring with as many blooms as you can, and bring summer to your table. (A word to the wise: we don’t have jars, so please bring your own to ensure your flowers safe passage home).
In addition to beautiful blooms, we have lots of fresh tasty produce for you. This week: great cherry and heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, summer and zucchini squash, our first cured garlic, fresh shallots, fresh onions, purple peppers, baby beets, kales, collards, chard, eggplant (Italian & Turkish) plenty of fragrant basil. From partner farms: tender green beans, new potatoes, wonderful sweet organic blueberries from Ewing Fruit Co., and more.
In other farm news we are hiring! In a few short weeks, as schools resume, we’ll lose some of our wonderful summer crew and we need capable hands. Work with us from now until the end of October as we seed, plant, grow, and harvest veggies, and prep the farm for winter. More information available here, please spread the word.

FROM THE PANTRY

CROOKED SPOON PASTA: During our busiest season, we resort to meals that can be made with little forethought. We are excited to offer freshly made pasta by Crooked Spoon & Co (Thomaston, ME), that fits this bill beautifully. In the barn this week: a delicious kale pasta (made from our kale), and a great egg pasta. They’re in our standing freezer (to the left as you enter the barn).
ON OUR TABLE

With plenty of fresh ripe tomatoes at hand, I’ve been making fresh sauce from Marcella Hazan’s time-tested recipe. Tomatoes, half an onion, ample butter, and time. I throw in basil for good measure, and don’t bother straining out the skin. A perfect summer meal that is done in little time.
