Leonie Evans has spent decades doing something harder than being famous: being genuinely, prolifically, incorrigibly herself. Born in South East London, she has been performing since she was five and has never really stopped — traveling Britain, Europe, Japan, and the United States with a guitar and a rucksack, recording songs with musicians she loves, building a sprawling underground network of collaborators who would, by all accounts, drop everything to make music with her. Her voice has been called ethereal, old-school, unclassifiable, and — by Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2 — something that manages to sound both vintage and right up to date at the same time. She plays guitar, upright piano, Rhodes, organ, and a simulated trumpet with her voice that one reviewer said makes you wonder why anyone would bother learning the actual instrument. Jazz and folk and blues and something harder to name, recorded most recently in New Orleans. Coming to a barn in Maine via North Haven. Don’t miss this one.
TENDERWILD FARM WELCOMES CRABTREE SESSIONS
Crabtree Sessions has been happening on North Haven for five years — live music at Turner Farm, one of the most beautiful settings in Maine. The catch: unless you live on the island, you can’t go. No late ferries, nowhere to stay. This season, two farms on either side of the Pen Bay are joining forces to change that. Crabtree Sessions comes to the mainland for the first time, hosted at Tenderwild Farm — same spirit, same commitment to music that means something, new shore. If you’ve heard about these shows and wondered what you were missing, pull up a chair. We’re glad you’re here.
